My 3-Month Journey with Addyi: A Personal Experience
If you're reading this, chances are you're curious about improving libido and maybe you heard about Addyi (flibanserin) and wonder whether it might be right for you. When I started my journey with Addyi, I had plenty of questions, concerns, and definitely a healthy dose of skepticism. Now, after three months of consistent use, I want to share my honest experience—what worked, what didn’t, and whether I’d recommend it to others considering this medication.
Why I Started Addyi
Since turning 40 (I am now 44), I have struggled with low libido, something I didn’t talk about much but deeply felt in my personal relationship with my husbnad. We’ve been married for 15 years now, both work full time jobs and parents for 11 years. I tried some lifestyle changes—exercise, diet adjustments, stress management—but I still wasn’t feeling much improvement. I heard about Addyi at a conference last year and obviously I was instantly intrigued. I am my most common patient- late 30-40-something and perimenopause is sneaking up on us. As I always do, I did my homework and found Addyi is specifically designed for premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). I figured- what do I have to lose??
The First Few Weeks
Addyi is taken daily at bedtime, and I was prepared for potential side effects, especially dizziness (so no Addyi if I had a cocktail with dinner). The first week I experienced mild dizziness if I got up during the night to use the bathroom (only something I find myself saying in perimenopause LOL). I did not experience any of the other known side effects- low blood pressure, drowsiness, fatigue, nausea or insomnia being the most common. I feel like I have adjusted to the medication really well and I am excited to see what happens!
Month 2: Noticing Subtle Shifts
By the middle of the second month, I noticed subtle but promising changes. While I wasn’t experiencing an overnight transformation, I did feel more responsive to intimacy. There was a slight increase in my desire, but more importantly, I felt more emotionally engaged in the actual intimate moments. It wasn’t just about physical response—it was as if a mental block had started to lift. Started feeling like I was turning a new leaf
Month 3: More Consistency
Going into the third month, the effects became more noticeable. My libido wasn’t sky-high, but I felt more in tune with my body and desires. My mood also seemed to improve slightly, and I found myself more open to intimacy without feeling like it was something I had to do, just because it was time.
The Verdict
By the start of the 4th month, I had a good sense of how Addyi was affecting me. While it wasn’t a miracle pill, it did help me reconnect with my desire in a way that feels natural. I am looking forward to continuing on for longer to see how this feeling improves.
Would I Recommend It?
If you’re considering Addyi, my biggest advice is to know that its not immediate. But for me, it provided a meaningful shift in my overall feelings of intimacy being something to enjoy again and not fear the lack of connection. The side effects were manageable after the initial adjustment period, and the benefits, though gradual, were completely worth it. My thoughts were it can only improve my experience, so what’s there to lose?
Of course, everyone’s body responds differently, so it’s crucial to consult with one of our providers to see if it’s the right fit for you!
